Easter baskets do not have to mean dye-filled candy overload and sugar crashes before church.

If you are looking for better Easter goodies that still feel fun, colorful, and exciting for kids, I’ve rounded up some of our favorite swaps. These are things I have actually ordered, used, and feel good about putting in baskets.
Better Candy Swaps
If your kids love the classics, here are some cleaner options that still feel familiar.
Skittles Replacement
Starburst Replacement
M&M Replacement
Gummy Bears Replacement
These brands avoid a lot of the artificial dyes and questionable ingredients found in conventional candy. They still feel festive and fun without all the junk.
Non-Candy Easter Egg Ideas (Our Favorite)
What we’ve done in the past is buy just a few pieces of better candy, then pair it with something bigger.
We’ll choose a summer toy, print out a picture of it, cut the picture into puzzle pieces, and place those pieces inside the eggs along with a small treat.
After the egg hunt, the kids piece together the picture to reveal what summer toy they’re getting. It stretches the fun and takes the focus off filling every egg with candy.
Here are a few items we’ve used that double as spring and summer fun:

Mesh Beach Bags https://amzn.to/4uF6EhH
Reusable Water Balloons https://amzn.to/4bT4K5y
Sprinkler Splash Pad https://amzn.to/4lFLEDq
Large Bubble Wand Set https://amzn.to/4cSpR9j
These are the kinds of things that get used for months instead of being eaten in 20 minutes.
A Simple Shift
You do not have to eliminate candy completely. We never do.
But being intentional about what goes into those baskets makes a difference. Fewer artificial ingredients. Fewer dyes. More outdoor fun. More creativity.
Easter should feel joyful, not like a sugar hangover waiting to happen.
